Privacy and data responsibility
This page explains what data the app may store, how contact messages are handled, and what responsibility you keep for protecting your own work.
Important
Story Map Builder is a planning aid, not a guaranteed storage or backup service. Keep separate copies of important product planning work.
Optional analytics settings
Choose each optional provider separately. Your choice applies immediately; if browser storage is blocked, it applies only to this open page.
No account required
Story Map Builder is designed to be usable without creating an account. Do not enter sensitive, confidential, regulated, or business-critical data unless you are comfortable managing that risk yourself.
Local data and browser storage
Story map content, preferences, and workspace state may be stored in your browser so the app can remember your work between sessions. Browser storage can be cleared by you, your browser, operating system cleanup tools, extensions, or device policies.
PostHog product analytics
With your consent, we use PostHog in the European Union to understand page views and broad product usage so we can improve Story Map Builder. PostHog may use pseudonymous browser identifiers stored in cookies or local storage. Interaction autocapture, session recording, error capture, and advertising tracking are disabled. We do not send the contents of your story maps as analytics events. Retention is controlled in our PostHog project and should be confirmed before publication.
Vercel analytics and hosting
With your separate consent, Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights measure aggregate site usage and page performance. They are optional and do not receive your story map contents. Necessary hosting, security, and abuse-prevention logs may still be processed independently of optional client analytics.
Your analytics choices
Analytics are not used for advertising. You can accept or decline optional analytics from the banner and change either provider at any time below. Withdrawal stops future collection; it cannot retract data that was already sent.
Contact messages
If you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent to the site owner for the purpose of responding to you. Do not include passwords, secrets, or sensitive project information in the form.
Data responsibility
You are responsible for keeping your own backups or exports of any important work. Story Map Builder is provided as-is, and no responsibility or liability is accepted for lost, deleted, corrupted, unavailable, or unrecoverable data, whether caused by browser storage changes, software errors, service interruptions, device issues, or user action.
Changes
This page may be updated as the product changes. Continued use of the site after an update means the updated terms apply from that point forward.
